On 10/17/2009 my wife spotted a bright object in the sky:
We pulled out our telescope and tried to capture some shots with our handheld digital camera focusing through the lens. Later there was a projectile that shot off to the right and a red parachute came out to the left and fell to the earth. It was all I could do to track it and watch – I was not able to capture a photo of the payload.

The space shuttle came through town today. We were out doing yard work when my wife spotted it flying over. Here are a couple of shots of Discovery taxing for takeoff and one of takeoff.
